Endowment Specifics

Can-Do

Can-Do Mission Assistance Endowment

This endowment was established to provide financial assistance to Can-Do participants, and income generated provides opportunities for youth of the Texas District to support mission work and to participate in short-term mission experiences.

Can-Do Missions General Endowment

This permanent fund was established to receive gifts for Can-Do Missions, and income generated is used to support new site development and to provide seed money to expand into more mission areas.


Concordia

Ministerial Student Loan Endowment

The earnings from this endowment shall be loaned to Ministerial (Lutheran pastor or educator) students attending Concordia University at Austin. The University is responsible for the selection of loan recipients. The loan is forgiven upon graduation from a Synodically-recognized College or Seminary, and entrance into the ministry of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod as a pastor or educator.

Houston Lutheran Chorale

Endowment Fund

This endowment was established to support the mission and ministry of the Houston Lutheran Chorale. Income from the fund supports the Chorale and is disbursed according to the appropriate decision-making body of the Chorale.


Lutheran Foundation of Texas

Ministry Endowment Fund

This endowment was established to generate income to fund the administrative and operational expenses of the Foundation, with any excess income to be distributed to those qualified ministries recognized by the Texas District Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and selected by the Board of Directors of the Foundation.

Luthern Outdoors Ministry of Texas

Equipping for Excellence Endowment

Income that is generated from this endowment is used for capital additions, improvements and maintenance at Camp Lone Star in La Grange, Texas and Texoma Lutheran Camp in Pottsboro, Texas.

Summer Camp Scholarship Endowment

Income that is generated from this endowment helps provide camp scholarships and other programs for the disadvantaged, unchurched youngsters, etc.

Staff Endowment

Typically, salaries paid to outdoor ministry staff tend to be very modest. Income that is generated from this endowment helps provide supplemental salary support for program directors, part time retreat staff, etc.

Sheila Midgett Kappler Memorial Summer Camp Counselor Endowment

Income generated from this endowment helps provide supplemental salary support for camp summer counselors, etc.

Lutheran Social Services of the South

Lutheran Chaplaincy Endowment

This endowment was established with the Lutheran Foundation of Texas and the income is to be used to accomplish the purposes of Lutheran Chaplaincy Ministry to extend and expand the ministry of the local congregation by offering the Gospel to those who are sick, imprisoned, suffering, and dying, and by administering the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion in times of need in crisis.


Lutheran High Schools

Concordia Lutheran High School of North Harris County, Tomball

The annual trust amount from the endowment of Concordia Lutheran High School of North Harris County, Tomball, Texas, shall be distributed to the School for scholarships for students at the School unless otherwise designated in accordance with the endowment Agreement.

Lutheran High School of San Antonio

The annual trust amount from the Scholarship Trust Fund of Lutheran High School of San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas, shall be distributed to the School for the Scholarship Fund at Lutheran High School of San Antonio, according to the highest decision-making body of the School.

Lutheran Women's Missionary League

Texas District LWML Mission Inreach Endowment

This endowment was established in 1998 with the income to be used for the purposes of Mission Inreach through spiritual enrichment, member development, and leadership training opportunities for members of the Texas District Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

Texas District LWML Scholarship Endowment

Created in 1992 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Texas District Lutheran Women's Missionary League, this endowment provides scholarships to woman of the Texas District who are enrolled in a course of study leading to full-time professional church work in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.


Other Endowments

Panhandle-South Plains Lutheran Camp Association Endowment

Created in 2006, this endowment is used equally for the registration fees of all campers who attend yearly camping events sponsored by the Panhandle-South Plains Lutheran Camp Association.

Rio Grande Valley Mission Action Council (RioMAC) Endowment

Established in 2006, this endowment is intended to provide support for current and new Lutheran ministries in the Rio Grande Valley and Northern Mexico.

Campus Ministry

Born Endowment Fund

Income generated from this endowment provides support for the following campus ministries: University Lutheran Church, Lubbock, TX; University of Houston Campus Ministry, Houston, TX; University Lutheran Chapel, College Station, TX; University of North Texas and Texas Women's University, Denton, TX; Lutheran Student Center, Arlington, TX; and University Lutheran Church, Austin, TX.

University Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, Austin, Texas

Income that is generated from this endowment is to be used for the financial support of this ministry. University Lutheran Church serves students from both the University of Texas and Concordia University at Austin and is committed to helping students and staff in these academic environments discover and fulfill their calling in Jesus Christ through worship, service, and friendship.

University Lutheran Chapel Endowment Fund, College Station, Texas

Income that is generated from this endowment is to be used for the financial support of this ministry. University Lutheran Chapel and Student Center provides worship and Bible study opportunities for students attending Texas A & M University. This ministry also does significant outreach to International students.

University Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, Lubbock, Texas

Income that is generated from this endowment is to be used for the financial support of this ministry. University Lutheran Church and Student Center seizes everyday opportunities to reach out with the love of Christ to students at Texas Tech University.

University of Houston Campus Ministry Endowment Fund, Houston, Texas

Income that is generated from this endowment is to be used for the financial support of this ministry. Students at the University of Houston benefit from the spiritual activities provided by the University of Houston Campus Ministry.

Deaf Ministry

Deaf Ministry Endowment

Income that is generated from this endowment is used to pay salaries of pastors in deaf ministry in the Texas District. This unique ministry is being carried on in several Texas cities at this time.


Education

Keith A. Loomans Excellence in Education Awards Scholarship Endowment

Established in 1999 to honor Keith A. Loomans, longtime Education Administrator for the Texas District, this endowment will provide to Concordia University at Austin income for scholarship awards to students preparing to be Lutheran teachers. One students will be named from each of the following classes: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, and Master of Education.

Hispanic Ministry

Board of Mission Administration Hispanic Endowment Fund

This endowment was established to provide financial support to Hispanic ministries in the Texas District. Income generated is used by the Board of Mission Administration in an appropriate manner to further ministry in our Hispanic congregations.


Mission Planning

Board for Mission Administration Mission Planting Endowment Fund

The Texas District Board of Directors has set a goal of establishing ten new mission ministries each year through 2010. Income generated from this endowment is used for the planting of new mission work in the Texas District. A goal has been set to raise $1 million for this endowment, that was created at the Texas District LCMS Convention in 1988.


Parish Nurse Ministry

Texas District Parish Nurse Ministry Endowment

Income generated from this endowment is used for the Parish Nurse Ministry as scholarships for seminars, Parish Nurse Distance Learning Program, educational workshops, and conferences, as well as assisting with administrative costs of the Ministry.

Pastors' Wives' Retreat

Texas District Pastors' Wives' Retreat Endowment

Income generated from this endowment is used first for registration costs for widows and retired pastor's wives and for scholarships for those unable to pay, and then the remaining monies shall be used for program expenses or other needs of the Pastors' Wives' Retreat.


Professional Church Workers

Texas District Professional Church Workers Endowment

This endowment was established to provide scholarships for the support of students from LCMS Texas District congregations preparing for professional church work in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Scholarship recipients are to be selected by the Board of Mission Administration of the Texas District LCMS.


Seminary Student Loan

Seminary Student Loan Endowment

This endowment was established with the Lutheran Foundation of Texas and the income is to be loaned to male Seminary students preparing for full-time pastoral ministry in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The loan forgiveness shall begin upon graduation from the Seminary, certification as a Pastor of the LCMS and acceptance of a divine pastoral call.
