Estate and Gift Planning Consultation for Congregation Members
Many of God's people are faithful stewards of His blessings during their lifetimes, but do not complete their Christian stewardship by failing to implement a plan that will pass along their material blessings in a Christ-centered way when God calls them home to be with Him in heaven. Christian estate and gift planning becomes more critical every day as the number of World War II Generation people continues to dwindle with each new sainted child of God. Within the next twenty-five years, over 26 trillion dollars will be passed from one generation to the next. Significant numbers of Lutherans will be in that number, and Lutherans need to be prepared to be faithful stewards of God's blessings at that time.
At no cost or obligation, the Lutheran Foundation of Texas provides Christian estate and gift planning services to Lutherans throughout the Texas District. Lutherans most often become aware of this consultation service through information provided in a congregational setting such as a Bible class, seminar, group presentation, or stewardship message shared in a worship service. The staff of the Lutheran Foundation of Texas is pleased to meet individually with any church members in their home at a time that is most convenient for the members.
Three steps are involved in developing a Christ-centered estate and gift plan. First, a representative of the Foundation meets with the members at their home for an initial confidential consultation that can be expected to last 1 - 2 hours. Second, from the information gathered at that first meeting, the LFOT staff person prepares a written "Discussion Outline" that summarizes the goals and objectives determined by the members. That outline is then shared with the members at a second meeting or provided through the mail. Third, the members then meet with their own estate planning attorney and, using the written outline, present their goals and objectives for the actual preparation of their Christian Wills and other estate planning documents.
A high number of Lutheran individuals and families have not addressed this need for Christian estate and gift planning. Many church members have not done this simply because they do not know where to begin. The Lutheran Foundation of Texas is eager to provide this free service of assisting Lutherans throughout the Texas District in taking the first steps toward designing a plan that will bless their families and the Lord's work as well. Working together with individuals, families, attorneys, accountants, financial planners, and insurance professionals, the Foundation can help God's people complete their Christian stewardship.
